Evelyn Everett-Green
Evelyn Everett-Green was a British author known for her prolific output of historical fiction, romance, and children's books in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She was born in London in 1856 and grew up in a family of writers and artists. Her father, George Pycock Green, was a novelist and journalist, while her mother, Clara Green, was a portrait painter.
Everett-Green began her writing career in the 1870s, contributing short stories and articles to various publications. She published her first book, "Tom Tempest's Victory," in 1878, and went on to write over 350 books over the course of her career. Her books were popular with both children and adults, and were known for their moral and religious themes.
Everett-Green's most famous works include "A Heroine of the North" (1887), "The Little Earl" (1892), "The Sign of the Red Cross" (1905), and "The Lost Treasure of Trevlyn" (1894). Many of her books were set in historical periods and featured strong female protagonists who faced challenges and overcame adversity.
Everett-Green's philosophy was rooted in her strong Christian faith, and her books often had moral and religious messages. She believed that literature had the power to shape young minds and influence society, and she sought to use her writing to promote Christian values and morals.
Everett-Green died in 1932 at the age of 75, but her legacy lives on through her many books, which continue to be read and enjoyed by readers around the world. She is remembered for her prolific output of wholesome and inspiring literature, and for her dedication to promoting Christian values through her writing.
Interestingly, despite her large body of work, Everett-Green's name is not as well-known as some of her contemporaries. This is perhaps due to the fact that many of her books were published under pseudonyms, and her focus on moral and religious themes may not have aligned with the literary trends of her time. Nonetheless, her contributions to literature, particularly in the genres of historical fiction and children's literature, continue to be appreciated by readers today.
