Michael Earls

Michael Earls, S.J. (1875–1937) was a Jesuit priest, as well as a writer, poet, teacher, and administrator. He was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts, in 1875, to Irish immigrant parents. He attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and then went on to study at Georgetown University, where he earned a master's degree in literature. After graduating from Georgetown, Earls entered the Society of Jesus in 1898.

Earls was ordained a priest in 1912, and he then taught English at Holy Cross College for several years. He also served as the editor of the college's literary magazine, The Purple Key. In 1926, Earls was appointed Minister of the Jesuit Community at Holy Cross, and he served in that position until 1930.

Earls was a prolific writer, and he published several books of poetry, including The Way of the Cross (1914) and The Vision of Love (1924). He also wrote a number of short stories and essays. Earls's writing was often inspired by his faith, and he explored themes of love, compassion, and redemption in his work.

Earls died in 1937, at the age of 62. He is remembered as a gifted writer and teacher, and his work continues to be read and appreciated today.
