The book of Nehemiah tells the story of how Nehemiah, a Jewish leader who lived in the 5th century BC, rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was a cupbearer to King Artaxerxes of Persia, and when he heard that the walls of Jerusalem were in ruins, he asked the king's permission to go and rebuild them.
