'Desencantos' Summary
The play tells the story of Clara de Souza, a young woman who is engaged to Luís de Melo, a wealthy man. However, Clara is not in love with Luís, and she is secretly in love with Pedro Alves, a poor man. When Luís finds out about Clara's secret, he challenges Pedro to a duel. Pedro wins the duel but afterward asks Clara to marry Luís because he sees Luís would bring her more comfort and he knows he wouldn't. Clara marries Luís, but she is unhappy. She eventually leaves Luís and goes to live with Pedro.Book Details
