'Marrying of Ann Leete' Summary
The play opens with Mr. Leete discussing his plans with his wife. He tells her that he needs to find a husband for Ann who will help him save his career. He has in mind Lord John Carp, a scheming politician. Ann, however, is in love with John Abud, a young gardener. She tells her father that she will not marry Lord John. Mr. Leete is furious and threatens to disown her. Ann stands her ground and her father eventually relents. The play ends with Ann and John Abud getting married. The play is a comedy of manners that explores the themes of love, marriage, and social class.Book Details
