Bible (Biblia Sacra juxta Vulgatam Clementinam)
'Bible (Biblia Sacra juxta Vulgatam Clementinam)' Summary
The Clementine Vulgate is a revision of the Sistine Vulgate, the official Latin translation of the Bible commissioned by Pope Sixtus V in 1590. The Clementine Vulgate was prepared by a team of scholars under the direction of Pope Clement VIII and was published in 1592. It was intended to correct the textual errors in the Sistine Vulgate and to provide a more accurate and reliable Latin translation of the Bible. The Clementine Vulgate contains the entire Old and New Testaments, as well as the apocryphal books of Prayer of Manasseh, 3 Esdras, and 4 Esdras. It also contains the Psalterium Gallicanum, a Latin translation of the Psalms that is different from the more common Versio juxta Hebraicum. The Clementine Vulgate was issued with the papal bull Cum Sacrorum, which declared that it was the only authorized Latin translation of the Bible and that no changes could be made to the text without the permission of the pope.Book Details
