Bible (DRV) Apocrypha/Deuterocanon: Additions to Esther
'Bible (DRV) Apocrypha/Deuterocanon: Additions to Esther' Summary
This book is the Douay-Rheims Version of the Book of Esther, which includes the additional six chapters found in the Septuagint and the Vulgate. These chapters are known as the 'Additions to Esther' or the 'Deuterocanonical' portion of the book. They are not present in the Hebrew text and were considered additions by Jerome, who placed them at the end of his Latin translation. The additional chapters primarily focus on the prayers and pleas of Esther and Mordecai to God, addressing the threat of Haman's plot to destroy the Jews. The inclusion of these chapters serves to emphasize the role of divine providence in the story of Esther, providing a more overtly religious dimension to the narrative.Book Details
