La historia de Ester se desarrolla en el Imperio Persa durante el reinado de Asuero (Xerxes I). Tras la destitución de la reina Vasti, se organiza un concurso de belleza para elegir a una nueva reina. Ester, una joven huérfana judía criada por su tío Mardoqueo, es presentada al rey. Ella se convierte en reina, pero oculta su origen judío por miedo a represalias. En ese tiempo, Amán, un ministro del rey, trama la destrucción de los judíos, por lo que Mardoqueo le pide a Ester que intervenga. Ester se revela ante el rey, exponiendo la amenaza de Amán y salvando a su pueblo. Amán es ejecutado y el rey declara un día festivo para celebrar la liberación de los judíos. El libro de Ester es una narración de drama, intriga y fe, mostrando cómo la providencia divina actúa en la historia humana.
