Burston Rebellion
'Burston Rebellion' Summary
The Burston Rebellion was a strike that began in 1914 when two teachers were dismissed from their posts for trying to improve the conditions of their pupils and the children's parents, who were mostly agricultural laborers. The strike was led by 13-year-old Violet Potter and lasted for over 25 years, becoming the longest running strike in British history. The book records the experiences of the teachers, Tom and Annie Higdon, in the village, their battles with the local education authority, and the first few years of the strike. It is a story of social justice, education reform, and the power of working-class people to stand up for their rights.Book Details
