Caroline the Illustrious, Vol. 1
'Caroline the Illustrious, Vol. 1' Summary
Caroline of Ansbach was born in 1683 to the Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach. In 1705, she married George Augustus, the future George II of Great Britain. When her father-in-law, George I, ascended to the British throne in 1714, Caroline and her husband moved to England. Caroline quickly became a popular figure at court, known for her wit, intelligence, and charm. However, her relationship with George I was strained, as he was unpopular and ineffective as a monarch. When George II became king in 1727, Caroline's influence grew even stronger. She became his closest advisor and confidante, and played a major role in shaping British policy. Caroline was a skilled diplomat and mediator, and she often helped to resolve conflicts between her husband and his ministers. Caroline died in 1737, at the age of 54. She was deeply mourned by her husband and the British people. She is remembered as one of the most influential and powerful women in English history.Book Details
