Amuba, a prince of the Rebu, is captured by the Egyptians after his people are conquered. He becomes the servant and friend of Chebron, son of the high priest of Osiris. Together, they discover a plot to assassinate the Pharaoh. Their investigation leads them to the sacred Cat of Bubastes, and a fateful incident involving the chosen successor to the sacred animal sets off a desperate race for survival.
