Farthest North, Volume II
'Farthest North, Volume II' Summary
In the late 19th century, Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen embarked on an ambitious expedition to the Arctic. His goal was to reach the North Pole by becoming frozen in with his ship, the "Fram," and drifting across the Arctic Ocean. Nansen and his crew set out in 1893 and soon became trapped in the ice. They spent the next three years drifting with the ice pack, enduring extreme cold, treacherous conditions, and the constant threat of polar bears. Despite these challenges, Nansen and his crew collected valuable scientific data on the Arctic environment and wildlife. They also made several important discoveries, including the existence of the Fram Strait, a passage between Greenland and Svalbard. In 1896, Nansen and his crew finally emerged from the ice pack and returned to Norway as heroes. Their expedition was a landmark achievement in Arctic exploration and helped to pave the way for future expeditions to the North Pole.Book Details
