Froschmäusekrieg

Froschmäusekrieg

by Various

The *Froschmäusekrieg* is a playful parody of the Homeric epics, portraying a humorous and bloody war between the frogs and mice. This short epic, once attributed to Homer, has an unknown author and is believed to date back to the first century BC. It has been translated, retold, and adapted numerous times. This LibriVox recording presents two versions: a faithful, classical translation by Franz Xaver Weinzierl from 1804 and a more free adaptation in old German children's rhymes by Victor Blüthgen from 1878. Blüthgen's whimsical and witty verses, illustrated by Fedor Flinzer, capture the parodic tone of the original text. Both versions have their own charm and are included in this LibriVox edition.
