Grande Bretèche
'Grande Bretèche' Summary
La Grande Bretèche is a compelling tale set in the 19th century French countryside. The story unfolds as a group of guests at a dinner party are regaled with a haunting narrative by a mysterious guest, known only as the Marquis. He recounts the tragic fate of the inhabitants of a grand manor, La Grande Bretèche, during the time of the French Revolution. The story centers around the seemingly perfect marriage of a wealthy nobleman, the Comte, and his young and beautiful wife. However, this façade of marital bliss is shattered when the Comte's long-lost friend, the Chevalier, appears on the scene, stirring up a dangerous cocktail of jealousy and suspicion. The Marquis recounts the Comte's relentless pursuit of the truth, driven by a desire to protect his wife's honor and punish any potential infidelity. His investigation, fuelled by a mix of love and paranoia, leads him to a horrifying discovery that unravels the true nature of their relationship and the lengths to which one man will go to avenge a perceived betrayal.Book Details
