jardín de los cerezos
'jardín de los cerezos' Summary
The play is set in the Russian countryside in the early 20th century. The Ranevsky family, once wealthy landowners, are now facing financial ruin. Their estate, including their beloved cherry orchard, is about to be sold at auction. The family is in disarray, and each member is struggling to come to terms with the impending loss of their home. Lyubov Ranevskaya, the matriarch of the family, is a kind and gentle woman who is unable to face the reality of her situation. Her brother, Gaev, is a pompous and impractical man who refuses to believe that the family is in danger of losing their home. Anya, Ranevskaya's 17-year-old daughter, is a bright and optimistic young woman who is determined to save the cherry orchard. Trofimov, a young student who is in love with Anya, is a socialist who believes that the only way to save Russia is through a revolution. The play follows the family as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of their home. They are forced to confront their own mortality and the changing world around them. In the end, the cherry orchard is sold, and the family is forced to leave their home. However, the play ends on a note of hope, as Anya and Trofimov vow to build a new life together.Book Details
