Life of St. Teresa
'Life of St. Teresa' Summary
Teresa of Ávila was born in Spain in 1515. She entered the Carmelite Order in 1535 and soon became known for her mystical experiences and her ability to communicate with God. In 1562, she founded the Discalced Carmelites, a reformed branch of the Carmelite Order. Teresa's writings, which include her autobiography, The Life of Teresa of Jesus, and her seminal work, El Castillo Interior (The Interior Castle), are an integral part of Spanish Renaissance literature as well as Christian mysticism and Christian meditation practices. She was canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622 and named a Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul VI in 1970.Book Details
