Dans *Pays des fourrures*, Jules Verne nous transporte dans les vastes et glacées contrées de l'Arctique. Au XIXe siècle, une équipe d'officiers de la Compagnie de la Baie d'Hudson est envoyée pour établir un fort au nord du 70e parallèle. Ils choisissent le Cap Bathurst, qui semble être l'endroit idéal. Mais leur joie est de courte durée lorsque le cap, composé de glace, se détache du continent suite à une éruption volcanique. Piégés sur un immense iceberg à la dérive, les hommes doivent lutter pour survivre dans un environnement hostile et imprévisible.
