Railway Bridge of the Silvery Tay
'Railway Bridge of the Silvery Tay' Summary
This book contains nine different readings of "The Railway Bridge of the Silvery Tay" by William McGonagall, a Scottish poet known for his humorous, yet terrible, poetry. The poem was written in celebration of the Tay Rail Bridge's opening in 1878, but a year later, the bridge tragically collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 75 passengers. This event inspired McGonagall to write another poem, "The Tay Bridge Disaster," which is equally famous for its comical and often nonsensical verses. The recordings are a celebration of McGonagall's unique poetic style and offer a glimpse into the social and historical context of the Tay Bridge disaster.Book Details
