'The Pretty Lady' Summary
Christine, a French prostitute, comes to London in search of a better life. She meets and falls in love with a wealthy Englishman named Hoape, but their relationship is complicated by their different social backgrounds and by the war that is raging in Europe.
Christine is a complex and sympathetic character. She is intelligent, charming, and beautiful, but she is also aware of the prejudices that exist against her because of her profession. Hoape is a kind and sensitive man, but he is also haunted by his experiences as a soldier.
