'Adrift in New York' Summary
John Linden, a wealthy New Yorker, lays out a plan for his nephew, Curtis Waring, and niece, Florence Linden, to inherit his fortune. His stipulation? They must marry. Florence, however, is not attracted to Curtis, and her world shifts when she stumbles upon a plot to steal her uncle’s will. To prevent this, she teams up with Dodger, a resourceful street urchin, forming an unlikely friendship. When her uncle learns of the theft plot and Florence’s budding relationship with Dodger, he becomes furious. Determined to protect her newfound friend and choose her own path, Florence makes the audacious decision to leave her uncle's luxurious home and venture into the unknown with Dodger. This act of defiance sets her adrift in the bustling streets of New York City, forcing her to confront the realities of poverty and to discover her own resilience and resourcefulness. Faced with the uncertainties of a life without privilege, Florence must navigate the challenges of a new world, testing her strength, resourcefulness, and her belief in the power of choice.Book Details
