'Atlantis' Summary
Frederick von Kammacher, a German doctor burdened by his wife's insanity, his children's absence, and his failed research, finds solace in the fleeting beauty of a young dancer. Impulsively boarding the same steamship bound for New York, he finds himself entangled in a web of desires and uncertainties. As the ship sails through the vast expanse of the ocean, a sense of unease permeates the atmosphere, mirroring the turmoil within Kammacher's soul. The ship's luxurious surroundings, however, provide a stark contrast to the impending disaster that awaits. Hauptmann's vivid depiction of the ship's ultimate fate, a chilling echo of the Titanic's real-life tragedy, serves as a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the fragility of human existence. Amidst the chaos, Kammacher's yearning for the dancer becomes a symbol of hope and a fleeting solace in the face of overwhelming despair. The novel explores the complexities of human relationships, the destructive nature of obsession, and the enduring power of love even in the face of unimaginable loss.Book Details
