'Bailén' Summary
Bailén is the fourth novel in Benito Pérez Galdós's first series of Episodios Nacionales. The novel is set in 1808, during the Peninsular War between Spain and France. The novel follows the story of Gabriel de Araceli, a young man who fights against the French invaders. Gabriel is captured by the French and sentenced to death, but he is rescued by his friend, Juan de Dios. Gabriel and Juan de Dios join forces with other Spanish guerrillas to fight against the French. The novel culminates in the Battle of Bailén, a Spanish victory that marked a turning point in the war.Book Details
