Das Evangelium nach Johannes beginnt mit einem Prolog, in dem Jesus als das Wort Gottes beschrieben wird, das Fleisch geworden ist. Es folgt ein Bericht über die öffentliche Wirksamkeit Jesu, in dem er Wunder vollbringt, Lehren verkündet und Jünger sammelt. Der Höhepunkt des Evangeliums ist die Kreuzigung und Auferstehung Jesu.
