'Bible (Fenton) NT 03, 05: Holy Bible in Modern English, The: Luke, Acts' Summary
The Ferrar Fenton Bible presents a distinctive interpretation of the Holy Scriptures, departing from traditional English translations. Ferrar Fenton, a businessman and scholar, embarked on a project to translate the Bible directly from the original Hebrew, Chaldee, and Greek texts. This undertaking spanned 11 years, culminating in the publication of the complete Bible in 1903. Fenton rearranged the books of the Bible to reflect what he believed to be their chronological order, following the Hebrew Bible's sequence in the Old Testament. The translation also distinguishes itself by rendering the name of God as "The Ever-Living" throughout the Old Testament. One of the most notable features of Fenton's translation is the restoration of the Psalms to their original musical verse form, incorporating instructions for the "choirmaster" and descriptions of the appropriate instruments. The New Testament translation is based on the Greek text of Westcott and Hort, and Fenton's innovative approach places the Gospel of John and the First Epistle of John at the beginning, followed by the Gospel of Matthew. The resulting arrangement places the Acts of the Apostles immediately after the Gospel of Luke, offering a unique perspective on the sequence of events.Book Details
