'Caballero Carmelo' Summary

The story is set in the small town of Pisco, Peru, in the early 1900s. The protagonist, a young boy, lives with his family in a modest home. The family's main source of income is fishing, and they also keep a few animals, including a rooster named the Caballero Carmelo. The Caballero Carmelo is a proud and courageous rooster, and he is the undisputed champion of the town's cockfights. However, one day, a younger, stronger rooster named the Ajiseco challenges the Caballero Carmelo to a fight. The Caballero Carmelo knows that he is outmatched, but he refuses to back down. He fights bravely, but he is eventually defeated and mortally wounded.
