Cañas y barro
'Cañas y barro' Summary
Cañas y Barro tells the story of the Paloma family, a prominent family in the region of La Albufera, near Valencia, Spain. Generations of Palomas have established their name as skilled fishermen and boatmen. However, Tono, the son of Tío Paloma, chooses to abandon the family trade and focus on farming. This decision fuels a bitter rivalry between father and son, exacerbated by Tío Paloma's fierce pride and traditional values. The story further unravels with Tonet, Tono’s son, a weak and irresolute character who is drawn to an easy life. His affair with Neleta, the wife of Cañamel, a fellow fisherman, leads to social disgrace and the family’s downfall. As the novel progresses, the reader witnesses the devastating consequences of betrayal, unrequited love, and the struggle to reconcile personal ambitions with the weight of tradition. The story is a poignant portrayal of a family torn apart by conflicting desires, societal expectations, and the consequences of breaking from the past.Book Details
