Cutlass and Cudgel
'Cutlass and Cudgel' Summary
In the early 19th century, the rugged coastline of Wessex becomes the battleground between the HMS White Hawk and a cunning smuggling ring. A young midshipman, eager to prove himself, finds his world turned upside down when he is captured by the smugglers. He is taken into the care of a farm boy, the son of one of the smugglers, and a strange friendship blossoms between the two. However, their bond is severed when the midshipman escapes, leaving the farm boy to pursue his own aspirations of becoming a seaman on an Excise vessel. The story explores themes of loyalty, friendship, betrayal, and the allure of a life at sea against a backdrop of illicit trade and dangerous pursuits. The narrative follows both the midshipman's journey as he navigates the treacherous world of smuggling and the farm boy's pursuit of his own dreams, creating a thrilling and engaging story that is as much about personal growth as it is about the clash between duty and desire.Book Details
