Gold Hunter's Experience
'Gold Hunter's Experience' Summary
Chalkley J. Hambleton's Gold Hunter's Experience is a candid and humorous account of his participation in the Pike's Peak gold rush of 1860. Hambleton and three partners embarked on a journey from Missouri to Colorado, hauling 24 tons of mining equipment by ox cart. Along the way, they encountered buffalo herds, Indians, and disillusioned gold seekers returning from the fields. After witnessing the harsh realities of mining life, including the prevalence of scams and the difficulty of finding gold, Hambleton and his partners eventually decided to sell their claims and return home. Hambleton's memoir provides a vivid and entertaining glimpse into the experiences and challenges faced by those who sought their fortune in the gold fields of the American West.Book Details
