En 1859, Renault, un ingénieur minier, revient en France après avoir passé trois ans en Russie. Il ramène avec lui la momie du colonel Fougas, un militaire français du début du XIXe siècle. Renault, influencé par un livre d'un savant excentrique, tente de ressusciter le colonel. Son expérience réussit et le colonel Fougas se retrouve projeté dans la France de 1859, un siècle plus tard. Il est incapable de comprendre le monde qui l'entoure, choqué par l'évolution des mœurs, des technologies et de la politique. La satire d'About joue sur ce contraste entre le passé et le présent, ridiculisant les préjugés et l'incompréhension du monde moderne. Le colonel devient un personnage cocasse, observant avec amusement et dérision les changements sociaux qui l'entourent, créant une série de situations comiques et des critiques acerbes sur la société française de l'époque.Book Details
