'Iphigenie auf Tauris - Ein Schauspiel' Summary
Iphigenie, die Tochter des Agamemnon, wurde von ihrem Vater in Tauris geopfert, jedoch gerettet und zur Priesterin des Gottes Artemis ernannt. Sie ist nun gezwungen, alle Fremden zu opfern, die das Land betreten. Als ihr Bruder Orestes und sein treuer Freund Pylades auf der Suche nach der Statue der Artemis in Tauris landen, gerät Iphigenie in einen Konflikt. Sie möchte ihre Familie retten, muss aber gleichzeitig ihren Dienst an Artemis und das Gesetz des Landes respektieren. Durch List und Diplomatie versucht sie, ihre Brüder zu retten und gleichzeitig den barbarischen Ritus zu beenden. Sie gelingt es, den König Thoas von der Notwendigkeit der Opferung abzubringen und mit ihren Brüdern zu fliehen. Das Stück endet mit einem Aufruf zur Humanität und Vergebung, der die Grenzen der griechischen Mythologie überwindet und universelle Bedeutung erlangt.Book Details
