by Herodotus
'Libro I de la Historia de Heródoto' Summary
Herodotus's Histories is a work of Greek historiography that tells the story of the Greco-Persian Wars. It is divided into nine books, each of which is dedicated to a muse. The first book begins with a proem in which Herodotus expounds his intention: to prevent the deeds of the generations that preceded him from being consigned to oblivion (I 1), by explaining the causes of their conflicts. He then goes on to tell the story of the rise of the Persian Empire, from the reign of Cyrus the Great to the invasion of Greece by Xerxes I. Herodotus's Histories is a valuable source of information about the ancient world. It provides a detailed account of the Greco-Persian Wars, as well as descriptions of the cultures and customs of the various peoples of the Mediterranean region.Book Details
