by Otto Roquette

Rambert, a young man who has experienced the turmoil of war, returns to his hometown of Hildesheim after years away. He is faced with the responsibility of taking over his deceased father's business, a prospect he finds deeply unappealing. He is further discouraged by the rejection of his romantic feelings by the beautiful Richilde. Feeling trapped and yearning for freedom, Rambert desires to leave his life behind once more. However, his uncle and his brother, Dr. Musculus, have a plan to persuade him to stay, potentially altering his course and presenting him with a path he might not have anticipated.
