As Odysseus, disguised as a beggar, enters his own palace, he is met with hostility from the suitors who have been vying for the hand of his wife, Penelope. Among them is Irus, a professional beggar who taunts Odysseus and challenges him to a fight. Odysseus accepts the challenge, and despite his disguise, easily defeats Irus, knocking him out with a single blow. Odysseus's victory establishes his strength and cunning, and sets the stage for his eventual revelation of his true identity and his revenge against the suitors.Book Details
