Ο παππούς, ένας άνθρωπος γεμάτος φαντασία, αφηγείται ιστορίες για βασιλοπούλες που ερωτεύονται ταπεινούς ραφτάδες, ιστορίες που θυμίζουν παραμύθια. Ο εγγονός του, ένας νεαρός μαθητευόμενος ραφτάς στην Πόλη, είναι μαγεμένος από τις ιστορίες του παππού του και ονειρεύεται να τον ερωτευτεί μια βασιλοπούλα, να ζήσει την ιστορία που του έχει διηγηθεί.
