Selections From Harris's Cabinet

Selections from Harris's Cabinet

by William Roscoe

This collection of works originally published as part of 'Harris's Cabinet' features classic children's poems centered around the whimsical theme of a butterfly's ball. The original poem, "The Butterfly's Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast", was published in The Gentleman's Magazine and later enjoyed significant success when reprinted and illustrated by William Mulready. It was followed by sequels from other authors, including Catherine Ann Dorset and 'W. B.', and a revised edition by William Roscoe himself. The book includes both the original and revised versions of the poems, providing a glimpse into the evolution of these charming pieces of children's literature. An informative essay by Charles Welsh, originally published in an 1883 reprint, provides further context and insights into the work.
