'Senhora' Summary
Senhora conta a história de Aurélia Camargo, uma jovem órfã que é criada por seu tio, o senador Lemos. Aurélia é uma mulher inteligente e independente, mas ela vive em um mundo onde as mulheres são vistas como propriedades a serem compradas e vendidas. Quando ela se recusa a se casar com o homem que seu tio escolheu para ela, ela é banida de sua casa. Aurélia então encontra refúgio na casa de Fernando Seixas, um jovem médico que acredita na igualdade entre homens e mulheres. Os dois se apaixonam, mas seu amor é ameaçado pelas convenções sociais e pela desaprovação da família de Fernando. O romance é dividido em quatro partes, cada uma representando uma etapa no relacionamento de Aurélia e Fernando: preço, quitação, posse e resgate. Alencar usa essa estrutura para satirizar os casamentos arranjados e a forma como as mulheres eram tratadas como mercadorias na sociedade brasileira do século XIX.Book Details
