'Winners' Summary
The poem consists of four stanzas, each of which focuses on a different aspect of the soldier's experience. The first stanza describes the soldiers marching off to war, full of hope and determination. The second stanza describes the horrors of battle, and the soldiers' courage in the face of death. The third stanza describes the aftermath of battle, and the soldiers' grief for their fallen comrades.
