A Thousand Degrees Below Zero is a science fiction novel by Murray Leinster, first published in 1919. The story follows the adventures of a scientist who is trying to stop a mad scientist from creating a new Ice Age.
The story begins with Dr. Martin, a scientist who specializes in low temperatures, witnessing a strange phenomenon in the sky. He sees a black object flying overhead, leaving a trail of cold air in its wake. Dr. Martin investigates the object and discovers that it is a machine created by Dr. Thorvald, a brilliant but deranged scientist.
Dr. Thorvald has developed a machine that can create icebergs. He plans to use this machine to block the world's major ports and rivers, plunging the world into a new Ice Age. Dr. Martin realizes that Dr. Thorvald's plan is a threat to humanity and he sets out to stop him.
Dr. Martin teams up with a daring pilot named Captain Connaught to track down Dr. Thorvald and destroy his machine. The two men follow Dr. Thorvald to a remote island in the Arctic, where they engage in a battle of wits and courage.
In the end, Dr. Martin and Captain Connaught are able to destroy Dr. Thorvald's machine and prevent him from creating a new Ice Age. However, the story ends with a warning that the dangers of science are real and that we must be careful not to misuse our knowledge.
