Afke's Ten is a classic Dutch children's book that tells the story of a poor family with ten children living in the Frisian countryside around 1900. Despite their poverty, the family is happy and loving, thanks to the care and dedication of their mother, Afke. The book is based on the real-life experiences of Harmke Feenstra-Tuinstra, whose eldest daughter was a servant for the author, Nienke van Hichtum.
