'Aquis submersus' Summary
Die Geschichte dreht sich um das Rätsel eines Porträts eines toten Jungen und die Aufzeichnungen des Malers Johannes aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Der Erzähler der Rahmengeschichte entdeckt die Spuren einer unglücklichen Liebe, die zu einer langsamen Enthüllung des Schicksals des gemalten Kindes führen. Johannes, ein begabter Künstler, verliebt sich in eine junge Frau, doch seine Liebe bleibt unerwidert. Um sie zu beeindrucken, malt er das Porträt eines jungen Knaben, der die Zuneigung der Frau erringt. Doch der Junge stirbt, und sein Tod löst eine Tragödie aus, die das Leben aller Beteiligten verändert.
