Le Livre de Job raconte l'histoire d'un homme juste et prospère nommé Job, qui est soudainement frappé par la perte de ses biens, de ses enfants et de sa santé. Il se retrouve plongé dans une profonde détresse, s'interrogeant sur la justice divine et le sens de sa souffrance. Ses trois amis, Éliphaz, Baldad et Sophar, tentent de le consoler en lui expliquant que ses malheurs sont une conséquence de ses péchés. Job, cependant, refuse cette interprétation et maintient son innocence. Le débat entre Job et ses amis culmine dans une confrontation avec Dieu lui-même, qui se révèle à Job et lui rappelle sa grandeur et sa puissance, sans toutefois lui donner de réponse claire à ses questions. Job accepte finalement sa situation, reconnaissant l'incompréhensibilité des voies divines et la puissance infinie de Dieu. Le Livre de Job est une œuvre profondément troublante et riche en réflexions philosophiques et théologiques.
