'Black Cat Vol. 01 No. 01 October 1895' Summary
The first issue of The Black Cat presents a diverse collection of short stories. Roberta Littlehale's "In Gold Time" plunges us into the heart of the wild west, where a love triangle leads to tragic consequences. "The Unturned Trump" by Barnes MacGreggor (a pseudonym for H. D. Umbstaetter), intertwines a simple card game with a chilling tale shared by a traveler. Julia Magruder's "The Secret of the White Castle" delves into the unsettling mystery of a portrait with an uncanny life-like gaze. Granville Sharpe's "Miss Wood, --Stenographer" features a young stenographer who witnesses a deaf-mute's final revelations on his deathbed. Harold Kinsabby (another pseudonym for H. D. Umbstaetter), in "Her Hoodoo," presents the unexpected danger posed by a seemingly docile pet calf. "In a Tiger Trap" by Charles Edward Barns throws a young girl into a heart-stopping encounter with a ferocious tiger. Finally, H. D. Umbstaetter's "The Red-Hot Dollar" follows a newly-married man on a quest to discover the origin of a seemingly ordinary silver dollar that holds a mysterious past.Book Details
