In the late 1800s in Pennsylvania, 14-year-old Tom Taylor and his 12-year-old blind brother Bennie work in coal mines to earn money for an operation that could restore Bennie's sight. They face dangerous conditions, including strikes and mine cave-ins, but their bond and determination keep them going.
