'Caleb Williams or Things As They Are' Summary
Caleb Williams, an intelligent and ambitious young man, is hired as a personal secretary to Ferdinando Falkland, a wealthy and respected British squire. Caleb accidentally discovers a terrible secret from Falkland's past, but promises to keep it a secret. Despite Caleb's promise of silence, Falkland, obsessed with maintaining his reputation and social standing, becomes increasingly fearful that Caleb may reveal his secret and sets out to destroy Caleb's life.
