Catena Aurea, St. John, - Vol 4 part 2
'Catena Aurea, St. John, - Vol 4 part 2' Summary
The Catena Aurea (Golden Chain) is a collection of commentaries on the Gospel of John by various Church Fathers, compiled by Saint Thomas Aquinas. The work was commissioned by Pope Urban IV so that everyone could understand the established meaning of the Gospels from the teaching of the early Fathers. The Catena Aurea presents the commentaries of over eighty early Church Fathers, including St. John Chrysostom, St. Jerome, St. Augustine, and many others, as if they were having a discussion on each verse of the Bible. St. Thomas Aquinas compiled this opus from sermons and commentaries on the Gospels, providing their insights into each passage. The work shows his intimate acquaintance with the Early Fathers and provides a valuable resource for understanding the historical and theological interpretation of the Gospel of John.Book Details
