Martin Guerre, a French peasant, left his village to fight in the religious wars. While he was away, his wife married another man, Arnaud du Tilh, who claimed to be Martin. Du Tilh lived with Martin's wife for several years and even had children with her. When the real Martin returned, he was accused of being an impostor and was nearly executed. However, he was eventually able to prove his identity and the imposter was arrested. The story of Martin Guerre is a fascinating tale of love, betrayal, and deception.Book Details
