When an English peer is found stabbed to death in his room, Scotland Yard is called in to investigate. Detective Inspector Arnold is baffled by the case, as there are no witnesses and no apparent motive. The only clue is a strange symbol found carved into the victim's chest. As Arnold delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a dark family secret and a sinister curse that has haunted the Reckavile family for generations. Meanwhile, Arnold finds himself drawn to Lady Jane Reckavile, the victim's widow.
