David Crockett: His Life and Adventures
'David Crockett: His Life and Adventures' Summary
David Crockett was born in Tennessee in 1786. He grew up in a poor family and had little formal education. As a young man, he fought in the War of 1812. After the war, he served in the Tennessee legislature and became a strong advocate for the common people. In 1827, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Crockett was a colorful and controversial figure. He was a skilled hunter and frontiersman, and he often wore a coonskin cap and buckskin clothing. He was also a gifted orator, and his speeches were often filled with humor and homespun wisdom. Crockett's political career was marked by his opposition to the policies of President Andrew Jackson. He was a strong supporter of states' rights and opposed Jackson's efforts to strengthen the federal government. In 1835, Crockett resigned from Congress and joined the Texas Revolution. He fought bravely at the Battle of the Alamo, where he was killed in action. Crockett's death made him a national hero, and he is still remembered today as one of the most famous frontiersmen in American history.Book Details
