Fausto

Fausto

by Estanislao del Campo

Fausto, by Estanislao del Campo, is a classic poem of Argentine gaucho literature. The poem follows the story of Anastasio, nicknamed 'El Pollo', a gaucho who encounters his friend Laguna on the road. While their horses rest and refresh themselves, 'El Pollo' recounts a recent experience: a meeting with the Devil during a visit to the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Laguna, after a few drinks of gin, listens intently to his friend's tale of the Devil's proposition, a humorous and insightful reflection on the allure of temptation and the values of the gaucho world.
