'Gaudenzia, Pride of the Palio' Summary
Gaudenzia, Pride of the Palio is a children's historical fiction novel by Marguerite Henry. The story is set in the Italian town of Siena during the annual Palio horse race. The protagonist, Giorgio Terni, is a young boy who dreams of riding in the Palio one day. When he meets Gaudenzia, a beautiful half-Arabian mare, he knows that she is the horse that can help him achieve his dream. Giorgio and Gaudenzia train together for the Palio, and they quickly become a formidable team. However, on the day of the race, Gaudenzia is injured and Giorgio is forced to ride another horse. Despite the setback, Giorgio and Gaudenzia eventually win the Palio, and they become legends in the town of Siena.Book Details
